The 3 W’s for Making Positive Change and Improvements in Your Life.

To help you achieve and maintain your goals for the next 12 months and beyond,  I’m going to share with you my 3 W’s, my 3 Step Process for helping you Choose, get Clear and Commit to what you’d really like to achieve and enjoy in your life this year.

 

Previously I’ve highlighted why  Why New Year’s Resolution’s Don’t Work, now here’s my 3 W’s for making positive change and improvements in your life.

Part 1Where

Where are you now? Where are you starting from?

Before you begin any journey you have to know where you are starting from, otherwise how will you know how to get there?

If you were to take a snap shot of your current position, what would that look like?

What are you currently unhappy about?

What is it about your current position you want to change?

What area of your life would you like to enhance and improve?

Take a few minutes and write down your current position.

Part 2 – What

What – what do actually want?  What would be your ideal outcome?

You get more of what you focus on, so now you need to choose what you actually want.

We often spend too much time and energy thinking and talking about what we don’t want, and that’s what we end up getting more of.

Imagine the mind is like a GPS/Sat Nav system, it’s only as good as the programming you give it, there’s no point programming your GPS/Sat Nav where you don’t want to go, in order to get to where you want to go, you first have to programme it to go to that destination you want to go to.

But can you see how the 3 steps are interconnected, in order to get to where you want to go, you have to know where you are starting from, without that your mind can’t find the quickest and most effective way to help get you there.  So if you skipped on step 1, go back and do it now.

So what do you actually want?

Ask yourself is If anything was possible and you had a magic wand, if you could fast forward to a point in your near future, where your life is exactly how you would like it to be  – what would your life be like? How would you spend your days? How would you spend your downtime?

Goals are like targets they give your life direction. They create blueprint for the future ahead. They put a powerful mindset force into play at both a conscious and subconscious level.

Goals give us direction, “Goals are new, forward-moving objectives. They magnetize you towards them.” – Mark Victor Hansen

Part 3 – Why

WHY do you want what you say you want?

What difference will it make to you, the quality of your life and the impact on the life of your loved ones?

Why is that so important to you?

What will be some of the positive consequences of achieving this outcome?

Your why is your emotional charge and momentum, which fuels your change and transformation, so the greater the clarity the better it will be!

In Step one you got clear on where you are staring from, in step 2 you decided where you wanted to go and,  now in step 3 you’re fuelling yourself for the journey a head.

Please not though, it doesn’t matter what your why is, or what others may think, it may sound big, small, vein, trivial, or amazing to someone else, the most important thing is, that it’s unique and personal to you!

Take a moment to think about and write down your why now.

This 3 step process combined together allows you to get clear, to set your intention, and gives you a purpose that allows you to start doing things on purpose towards achieving your goal and continue to live the life you desire.

If like many you have ever set a new year’s resolution, or any kind of goal, you have probably only ever done one of these steps, we usually know what we want, or at least what we don’t want.

But by now you can see why we often fail, or at least get knocked off track easily and go back to doing what we’ve always done.

But, by completing this simple 3 step process you are preparing your mind for success, helping to choose what you want, get clear, commit and then take action to make it happen.

The problem with traditional resolutions and goals is that the moment an external obstacles or hurdle comes your way, whether that be a bad day, or a wrong choice, it sends us off track and back following the path of least resistance doing what we’ve always done.

By knowing where you’re starting from and programming your mind’s sat nav for what and where you want to go, combined with fuelling your desire for going there, means that if the road ahead is blocked, or there is an obstacle or a hurdle, it’s ok.  Because your mind is just like a GPS system and will recalculate and help get you back on track. But it can only do this when it knows where it is going.

So please take some time for yourself now and really get clear and decide on what you want and why you want it.
