The Choice Is Yours: Procrastinating vs Taking Action

Overcoming Procrastination: A Personal Confession

I have to confess – I’m a recovering procrastinator!

There have been times in both my life and business when I’ve lacked clarity, felt overwhelmed, or been paralyzed by fear. Fear of the unknown. Fear of failure. Fear of criticism. And, as a result, I’ve put things off, doubted myself, and delayed taking action. In fact, if procrastination were an Olympic sport, I could have won gold several times over!

But here’s the thing – I’m not alone in this. I know, because I’ve worked with so many clients who have faced the same struggles.

My Battle With Procrastination

Let me share some of my own experiences with procrastination:

  • Earning my black belt: It took me way longer than it should have, even though I trained hard and was more than ready.
  • Running the London Marathon: I wanted to do it for years before I finally just went for it, committed to it and took action.
  • Growing my business: I’ve had countless ideas for programmes, offers, and courses, but I delayed launching them, talked myself out of them, or let perfectionism hold me back.

Ironically, one of the key things that stops people from achieving their goals is procrastination – and I’ve even procrastinated on running a training to help people overcome it! (Yes, the irony isn’t lost on me 😊.)

The Mindset Shift That Changed Everything

Here’s what I’ve learned: I’m not always like this. I’ve also had times when I’ve taken bold action – self-funding my training, starting my business in my early 20s, running live events, stepping outside my comfort zone to attend conferences, speak on radio and TV, and create content on my website, YouTube, and podcast.

Looking back, these weren’t just random bursts of motivation. They were moments when I shifted my mindset from procrastination to action.

And here’s what I want you to know—

Everyone, even the most accomplished and successful people, experiences procrastination. But the key is not to accept it as part of your identity.

Stop Saying “I’m a Procrastinator”

I’ve met so many people at events who proudly declare, “I’m such a procrastinator!” as if it’s a fixed trait they have no control over. But here’s the truth:

👉 Saying “I am a procrastinator” reinforces a belief that keeps you stuck.

👉 You are NOT a procrastinator—you are someone who has procrastinated at times. There’s a huge difference.

Your subconscious mind listens to the words you tell yourself. If you keep reinforcing a belief that doesn’t serve you, you’ll continue to act in alignment with it. Instead, shift your language:

“I am an action taker.”

“I follow through on my commitments.”

“I take consistent, aligned action toward my goals.”

The Opposite of Procrastination: Taking the First Step

So what’s the opposite of procrastination? Taking action, making consistent progress, and getting things done.

Here’s how you can start shifting your mindset today:

  1. Find evidence of times you have taken action. Look back at your life – there are countless examples where you followed through. Remind yourself of them.
  1. Reduce the overwhelm. If you’re stuck, break things down into smaller steps. You don’t have to figure everything out—just identify the next step.
  1. Reinforce a new belief. Start telling yourself, “I take aligned action.” Your mindset shapes your actions.

Imagine What You Could Achieve

What if you got out of your own way and stopped procrastinating?

Imagine what’s possible if you took small, consistent steps toward your biggest goals.

If you’ve been putting something off, today is your chance. The choice is yours:

Procrastinate or take the next step?
