Stop the Curse of Comparison and Stay Focused on Your Own Path

Stop comparing yourself to others – it’s draining your energy, minimising your wins, and keeping you stuck.

Have you ever caught yourself looking at someone else’s success and thinking:
“Why am I not further ahead?”
“Their results make mine look small.”
“I should be doing more by now.”

If so, you’re not alone.

Almost every client I work with admits they struggle with some form of the comparison trap. And with social media showing everyone’s “highlight reel,” it’s easier than ever to feel like you’re falling behind.

But here’s the truth: comparison drains your energy and minimises your progress.

Why Comparison is the Thief of Progress

When you compare, you rob yourself twice.

  • You rob yourself of the joy of what you’ve achieved.
  • And you rob yourself of the energy to create your next result.

The reality? You can’t compare your behind-the-scenes with someone else’s best bits.

You don’t see their struggles, sacrifices, or setbacks. You only see the filtered, edited version.

A Personal Example: My YouTube Milestone

Recently, my YouTube channel passed 100,000 views.

At first, I nearly dismissed it. I caught myself thinking:
“Well, some people get 100k views on one video, it’s no big deal.”

But then I stopped.

100,000 people have heard my message.

Imagine gathering them all in one stadium. That’s huge. That’s worth celebrating.

It reminded me and I hope it reminds you, that milestones matter, no matter how they compare to someone else’s.

The Power of Celebrating Wins

When you celebrate, you:

  • Reinforce the behaviour you want to repeat.
  • Boost your motivation and energy.
  • Train your mind to notice progress, not just problems.

This is how you reprogramme your M.O.S. – Mind Operating System.

Your mind believes what you feed it. So when you celebrate even the micro-wins, you condition yourself to keep taking action and keep building momentum.

The S.H.I.T.E. Framework and the Comparison Trap

Comparison sneaks in because of gaps in your:

  • Self: Doubts about your worth and ability.
  • Habits: Looking at others instead of building your own rhythm.
  • Identity: Believing “I’m not the type of person who…”
  • Thoughts: Spirals of “not enough” thinking.
  • Energy: Wasted on watching others instead of fuelling your own results.

When you get your S.H.I.T.E. together, comparison loses its power.

Reflection Questions To Help Reset Your Focus…

  1. Where am I minimising my progress by comparing it to someone else’s?
  2. What’s one recent win I haven’t properly celebrated?
  3. How can I acknowledge my progress today – no matter how small?
  4. If I stopped comparing and redirected that energy, what could I achieve?
  5. What’s the next brick I want to lay towards my version of success?

Stop Comparing, Start Celebrating

So here’s my challenge for you:

For the next 28 days, every time you catch yourself comparing, pause and flip it.
Write down one win, one strength, or one action you’ve taken that deserves celebrating.

This small shift builds new habits, boosts your energy, and re-trains your focus.

Final Thought

You are enough.

Your results, your milestones, your journey – they matter.

So stop letting comparison steal your joy. Stop dismissing your wins. And start celebrating your own path, brick by brick.

Because when you believe in yourself, take action, and celebrate progress, you’ll achieve far more than you ever imagined.

(0 days from now, this time next year – What will you be celebrating when you look back?
