What Is Mindset Coaching And Can You Really Change Your Mindset?

I’ve recently attended a few live in person events, (you know, like in the old days before zoom was a thing), and quite a few times I was asked, can you really change your mindset?

As someone who has been helping people change their mindset since 2001, my simple answer is always yes.

But I thought I’d write a post to answer the question in more depth.  So, if you’re reading this, either you’ve done a search to find out if it’s possible to change your mind, you’re looking to find out what mindset coaching is, or you’ve asked me that question and I’ve directed you to this post.

As a hypnotherapist, performance and mindset coach, (or hypno success coach as one of my clients introduced me as the other day), for over 20 years, I can confidently say that it is possible to change your mind in order to change and improve your life.

But if your you’ve reached a point in your life for the first time, where you are feeling stuck, frustrated or overwhelmed, or just feeling like you know what you want to do, but it feels like something is stopping you, or holding you back, then there is a good chance you may be running to some out of date mind programming and it’s time to update your mindset, in the same way you update the same way you update the software on your phone, computer and even your car.

Firstly, lets look at what mindset coaching actually is…

What is mindset coaching?


Mindset coaching is a form of coaching that helps individuals to work on their thoughts, attitudes, beliefs, habits and behaviours, to create meaningful changes and transformations in their lives.

It is based on the idea that we are all capable of creating the life we want, and that our thoughts, attitudes, beliefs, habits  and behaviours will determine the success or failure of our efforts.

Mindset coaching helps individuals to identify their own limiting beliefs, develop more empowering beliefs, adopt better ways of thinking, and take action towards achieving the goals and the life that they want.

It is a powerful tool that can help individuals to make lasting and meaningful changes in their lives and ultimately achieve and enjoy the life that they want!

Performance coaching is a collaborative process that helps individuals focus on their strengths and identify areas for improvement, in both their personal and professional life.

What is business mindset coaching?

Business mindset coaching, or executive mindset coaching, is a great way to help entrepreneurs, consultants, CEO’s and executives reach their goals.

It involves helping the individual identify areas of improvement and providing mindset strategies and guidance to reduce stress and overwhelm and help them reach their goals.

Business mindset coaching can also help business owners, change habits, become more efficient, develop better leadership skills and motivate them to reach their business success.

It can be a great way to help business owners prioritize tasks, create plans, and set goals.

Ultimately, business mindset coaching can be an invaluable tool for any business owner, or entrepreneur, who wants to take their business to the next level and achieve their personal best, while navigating and juggling all the day to day demands of business and personal life.

What is sports mindset coaching?

Over the years I’ve worked with a number of athletes and sports people, from amateur to elite level.

Sports mindset coaching focuses on helping athletes to develop a winning mindset and achieve peak performance.

It works to help athletes identify and overcome any mental blocks or negative thought patterns that may be preventing them from achieving their goals and their personal best.

Through sports mindset coaching, athletes learn to focus on their strengths, set and reach goals, stay motivated, and develop resilience when faced with challenges.

It can also help athletes develop the skills necessary to stay focused, calm and composed in competitive environments and through challenging times.

1) Make a conscious effort to think differently.
It can be difficult to break out of unwanted thinking patterns, but changing your mindset starts with making an effort to think differently and taking the time to focus on the positives and the outcomes you actually want.

2) Challenge yourself to take action.
Once you start to recognize unwanted thoughts, challenge yourself to take action to make a change. You can start small by doing something new or something you may have been avoiding.

3) Surround yourself with supportive people.
It’s important to be around people who will encourage and support you while you’re trying to make a mindset change.

4) Find motivation in your goals.
Create a strong vision for yourself and use that as motivation to make a positive change in your mindset and behaviour.

5) Be more present.  
Practice mindfulness, mindfulness can help you become more aware of your thought patterns and help you to become more deliberate in your thinking. Taking time to practice mindfulness and be more present can help you to reframe your thinking and gain a new perspective.

Doing these things once or twice, is unlikely to give you long term benefits, but if you apply them consistently to your life, notice what a positive impact they have for you!
